      Design Within Reach
Your source for modern living. At Design Within Reach, home comes first. They believe in creating and sourcing pieces that move with you and are meant to be enjoyed over a lifetime — from home to home, generation to generation. Since their founding, Design Within Reach has become synonymous with exceptionally crafted, built-to-last and beautifully designed furnishings. By giving people access to the best in authentic modern design, they have truly made design within reach. The idea for Design Within Reach first came to founder Rob Forbes in San Francisco in 1998, when he tried to furnish his apartment with the clean, simple classics he'd come to appreciate while living in London. He discovered that works by designers such as the Eameses, Le Corbusier and Saarinen were "out of reach" for anyone who didn't have connections within the industry, or the patience to wait months for delivery. Realizing there had to be a better way, Rob and a small team bought 20 containers of inventory, mailed a catalog and waited for the phone to ring. Architects, interior designers and the general public responded immediately, as did the brands that Rob had struggled to get his hands on just months earlier. One of the first brands to appreciate their approach was the Michigan-based company Herman Miller. Within one year of launching, Design Within Reach was bringing the Eames Lounge Chair, Aeron Chair and many other Herman Miller favorites directly to the retail customer — for the first time ever. In 2015, Design Within Reach became part of the Herman Miller family.
